An early 20th century Grandfather clock by Walter H. Durfee, Providence, RI. 8-day weight drive time and strike movement with Brass dial and upper moon phase, Silvered Chapter ring with Arabic numerals, cast dial center and spandrels. Mahogany Chippendale style case, broken arch top with carved griffin masks over a shaped bonnet door with beveled glass, flanked by fluted columns with brass capitols over a arched waist door with carved detail, flanked by fluted columns with carved capitols, over a paneled base with shaped feet. Older refinishing with minor wear, chips on hood returns, feet reduced in height, running when cataloged. 101" high overall. ESTIMATE $3,000-5,000

Oak Walter Durfee Grandfather Clock. 12 in. silvered dial signed ÂWalter H. Durfee, Providence has black Roman hour numerals, black 5 minute numbers outside, sub calendar aperture, sub seconds dial, fancy engraved silvered dial center, brass back plate, gilt corner spandrels and arched moon phase dial at the top; quality brass weight driven movement with half hour strike on a coiled gong, brass covered weights and large brass 6 spoke brass pulleys. In an oak case with broken arched crest having brass mounts and spun brass finials, beveled door glass on the bonnet and lower door, spiral turned columns on the bonnet, body and base with beautiful carved inset lower panel and claw feet. Case has an older refinish. 96.5 in. high x 20 in. wide x 14 in. deep.

Quality, weight driven, brass movement has Graham deadbeat escapement & retaining power; quarter hour strikes Westminster on 5 coiled gongs or it chimes on 8 steel bells, 3 quality brass weights and pulleys, brass pendulum bob with steel stick. Movement signed Walter Durfee, Providemce, RI. In an oak case with broken arch crest and rosettes on the bonnet, 3 brass finials, spiral turned side columns with brass capitols on the bonnet, body and base, beveled door glass and stands on carved claw feet. In very good condition and a clean original finish. A very nice example. 99 in. high x 23 in. wide x 14 in. deep.

Caldwell, Phiadelphia, PAÂ; brass weight driven movement has Graham deadbeat escapement, retaining power, quality brass weights, pulleys and pendulum bob with wood stick, signed on the moon phase disc ÂWalter H. Durfee, RIÂ and has 9 silvered tubes signed ÂWalter H. Durfee & Co. Providence, RIÂ. In an excellent carved oak case with broken arched pediment crest having turned finials, filigree carving and rosettes with long fluted columns on the bonnet; the body of the case has fancy shaped beveled glasses on the front door and sides with long fluted pilasters & filigree carving, stands on carved claw feet. Quarter sawn oak case is in very good condition with a French polished finish. 96 in. high x 24 in. wide x 18 in. deep.

Howe, Syracuse.” The brass weight driven movement has Graham deadbeat escapement with retaining power, quality brass weights, pulleys and pendulum bob with steel pendulum stick and 9 silvered tubes; movement is signed on the back plate “Walter H. Durfee, Providence, RI.” The oak case has an arched crest with pierced carved seashell, bell flower and ribbon design, turned finials, leaf carving and spiral turned columns with beveled glass on the bonnet door; the body of the case has long, turned fluted columns with leaf carving, mullioned beveled glasses on the door. beveled glass on the sides, oval brass escutcheon and inset panel on the base with filigree, bellflower and ribbon carving all standing on large claw feet. Plaque on the inside reads: “Erected by Warren H. Girvin, 1899.” Top of bonnet & base are replacements. Dimensions: 100 in. high x 25 in. wide x 17 in. deep.
