Vintage Jaeger Le Coultre Atmos Swiss Clock, Model 540
Description
This Swiss made clock is a wonderful example of precision timekeeping, elegance and beauty in motion. The gearing is so perfect that it requires no lubrication. Oil would merely clog the mechanism. Its balance moves slowly and majestically, performing only two vibrations per minute. It hangs from a steel alloy wire that is as fine as a hair and yet stable and resistant, thereby keeping any loss of energy due to friction to a minimum. The hands must be perfectly balanced so that the small amount of energy available in the movement can ensure constant rotation. Similar clocks retail today at over $6900 https://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/US/en/watches/atmos-classique/5101202#/t1. We have not attempted to test this clock, as we leave that to the new owner, but it appears to be in working condition. There is a small chip around the back top rim, almost underneath the metal frame that was recently discovered. It is slight, and not easily noticeable. We recommend a professional cleaning and service to this fine timepiece. AT&T plaque is attached to base, as it was possibly a retirement gift.
