Unusual French Empire Cherub Swinger Clock. French Empire brass inlaid & ebonized 4 column portico clock case with gilt brass capitols & bezel; open 4 in. porcelain dial with blued open moon hands and black hour numerals. Brass 8 day spring driven movement signed “Japy Fils” & Echappement Brevete (escapement patented), count wheel strike mechanism with brass bell; has a double wheel escapement with half disc pallet rocking back and forth between the escape wheels as the pendulum swings, the figural gilt white metal pendulum, represents a winged putti seated on a swing and rocking back and forth as the clock runs. Case is in good condition, original finish having some touchup and a little pulling to the brass inlays, dial has hairlines, bell is replaced. 17.75 in. high x 9 in. wide x 5.5 in. deep.
