Thwaites & Reed Rolling Ball Clock. c.1950’s. Case has a mahogany base with felt top, brass tubular posts and railing with spherical brass finials, a long slanted track on top of the case feeds the 35 silvered spherical steel balls down into a double disk spoked paddle wheel below, the weight of the ball rotates the wheel clockwise which drives the clock movement; when the ball reaches the bottom of the wheel it is dropped down through a brass cylinder and directed into the felt covered reserve area below. 5.75 in. silvered dial has black incised Roman hour numerals, brass disc center, brass signature tag for “Thwaites & Reed, London, England” and has pierced black hands; brass weight driven movement has a platform lever escapement signed “Chs. Gorge, SA. Switzerland” and is in good running condition. Beautiful clock, all original, in good condition and has a cubed plexi glass dome top. Clock is wound by replacing the balls back on top of the track. 11.5 in. high x 8.5 in. wide x 8.5 in. deep.
