Eli Terry Pillar and Scroll Shelf Clock, Plymouth, Connecticut, c. 1825, scroll top case, freestanding turned columns, beautiful hand painted dial with flowers and raised gilt corners, reverse painted tablet, label, “Patent Clocks, made and sold at Plyouth, Connecticut by Eli Terry, Inventor and Patentee”, has hand written name and date (1858) written on label. Wooden works, weight driven, key wind, with pendulum. Measures approx. 31″ tall x 17″ wide x 4 1/2″ deep. Many Eli Terry Clocks which depict a home or building on the reverse painted glass tablet, are actual homes in the Town of Plymouth and surrounding Connecticut towns of the time period.
Eli Terry Splat & Columns Mantle Clock. Original 10 in. painted wood dial with black Roman hour numerals and gilt highlights; 8 day wooden works weight driven movement with long pendulum rod, brass covered pendulum bob, steel bell hour strike, turned wood pulleys and typical 8 day iron weights. In a mahogany case with fruit basket carved crest, turned ball feet, ebonized and gilt stenciled turned half columns and repainted original lower tablet; case signed on a paper label ÂEli Terry & Sons, Plymouth, ConnecticutÂ. Case has an enhanced original finish, columns in original finish; movement has 2 replaced hand carved wood gears. 39 in. high x 18 in. wide x 5.25 in. deep. Weight: 35 lbs.
