A 19th century American Banjo clock by "Sawin & Dyer, Boston". 8-day weight driven time only movement with a painted Iron dial and Roman numerals marked "Sawin & Dyer, Boston". Mahogany case with banded detail, Brass Eagle finial over a molded Brass dial door, tapered throat panel with reverse painted glass flanked by Brass side arms, lower door with a reverse painted glass. Refinished case with minor wear, older repainted dial, replaced finial, running when cataloged. 34 1/2" high overall. ESTIMATE $4,000-6,000

Dyer, Wadsworth & Co. Column Shelf Clock: weight driven wood works with gong strike. There is a good interior label stating this company from Augusta, Georgia made 8 day clocks. The case is mahogany and veneer and has black columns with gilt ends and plaster eagle splat. The feet are intact. A key is with it.
(The time of strike needs adjusted. The splat has some missing plaster. The mirror has a frosty look and is now held in place with small nails. The lower key hole brass frame is damaged. The case has several minor problems.)

A rare and important striking looking glass shelf clock signed “Sawin” (John Sawin, Boston,1810-1863) with a stencil reverse painted decorated glass masking the dished dial above a looking glass mounted within the base panel. Striking shelf clocks are rare. John Sawin’s clock manufactory was located in various Boston area locations, including both 66 and 98 Court St, and was frequently employed by Simon Willard to make clocks”…excellent ones. Made most beautiful Lyres and Banjos.”
