English. 1890s. Brass with bevelled glass panels and a porcelain dial. Features visible escapement. A French made carriage clock made by Richard & Cie of Paris, France for English merchant Searle, Hoare & Co. of England. Marked "Searle, Hoare & Co." on the dial. Marked, "R & Co." on the movement. Marked on the upper side of the back plate. This clock was running at the time of cataloguing, but its service history is unknown. From the Skip Kerr Collection. 5"H 3.75"W 3.5"D.

Monumental Richard Whittington Grandfather Clock. Approx.12 feet high. Heavily carved oak case with 3 ft. tall putti at the base, around a central medallion of Sir William Whittington Knight, under the date 1793, the main door has a 4 ft. carving of a young Whittington with his cat chasing mice at his feet, father time & lady justice on either side, back panel has musical instruments, the bonnet with full standing winged angels and a carved 3 dimensional bust of Whittington at the crest. Massive dial has a lg. silvered chapter ring with applied Arabic hour numbers, fancy pierced hands sub-dials for Whittington/Cambridge chime on 8 bells, sub-dial with 7 songs on 12 bells, moon phase and 3 lower sub-calendar dials surrounded in pierced gilt brass filigree. The movement has large brass plates with engraved swirling leaf designs, deadbeat escapement and runs on 4 large figural painted weights, one for the chime, one for the song/tune, one for time and calendar and one for the lg. cathedral gong; movement and dial are both signed, Joshua Hampson Â Fecit 1743. Approx.12 feet high x 52 in. wide x 34 in. deep.

A brass lantern clock with the engraved dials signed “Richard Washington, London” with double fusee pendulum clockworks. The 17th century case is now modified and fit with an 18th or 19th century spring driven double fusee clockworks.

Lacking pendulum and back door. There is no guarantee of either the mechanical performance of clocks nor the completeness and originality of their parts and components.

Measures approx. 100″h. It has an ornately inlaid cherry case, three brass finials, a maple inlaid broken arch pediment and a sun and moon dial with eagle and shield. Dial has some touch ups. It has a floral painted face with a faded owner’s name on it. It is signed Richard Lester on the left side of the scat board. Feet have been replaced. Clock has original weights and pendulum. Richard Lesyter made clocks in York, Pa from 1770 to 1816.
