Rare Jacob Eby, Manheim (PA) Sheraton Mahogany Shelf Clock. Pillar and scroll case with brass urn finials, painted dial having roman numerals, signed "Jacob Eby, Manheim". Reverse painted lower tablet with building and landscape design. 8-day movement. 34-1/4"h. x 14-3/4"w. x 6-3/4"d.

dial signed "Edward Wanton, Richmond", circa 1800, arched and painted dial with floral cornucopias, brick red and mustard yellow spandrels, seconds sweep, brass works, waisted mahogany case with walnut banding, reeded quarter columns with brass Corinthian columns and bases, original French feet, arched hood with pierced fretwork and brass finials, original yellow pine saddle board, white pine secondary, pendulum and two weights, 97 x 20 x 10 in.
Note: Richmond clock and watchmaker Edward Wanton (1773-1813) is recorded in the MESDA craftsman index as well as in James Whisker, Virginia Clockmakers and Watchmakers, 1660-1860. Wanton advertised his services in the Argus in 1799 and 1801 and again in 1807. His estate inventory lists extensive watchmaker's tools as well as various clock and watch implements. We are not aware of any other known surviving works by this rare Richmond, Virginia maker.

Early 1800 Sheraton tall case clock, English, “David Jones, New Town”, painted steel dial with scenics and, moon phase dial, calendar window and second hand dial, heavy brass 8 day movement with falseplate, matched flame mahogany case, rosewood banded inlays, molded scroll arched crest, double spiral turned hood columns, full spiral reeded and turned inset waist columns, triple Gothic arch door, nicely molded base with inlay panels, bracket feet, 92″ tall 24″ wide 10″ deep. Good original finish/condition, missing center finial.
