Carved R.J. Horner & J.J. Elliot Oak 9 Tube Grandfather Clock. Large brass dial has a silvered 12 in. chapter ring with applied brass hour numbers, sub seconds dial, moon phase, sub dials for Chime/Silent & Westminster/Whittington, has fancy pierced blued hands, pierced gilt & engraved filigree center and corner spandrels, dial signed by the movement maker “Elliot, London” and retailed by Duryea & Potter, New York”. The brass weight driven movement has a Graham deadbeat escapement, retaining power, brass pulleys, brass covered weights & pendulum bob with long steel stick; movement signed “J.J. Elliot, London, 4585” and “H&H”, has 9 tubes striking Westminster and Whittington, also striking the hour, tubes are signed Harris & Harrington “436”. In an original finish carved R.J. Horner oak case with arched bonnet top having large turned finials, double columns on the sides and figural winged griffin corbels on the corners; the body of the case has large figural rattail maidens with arms crossed at their breast and double spiral twisted sea-serpent tails, beveled glass on the sides and oval front door. The base has a large carved inset front panel with swirling filigree, winged birds and center medallion with reclining putti in the center; inset side panels have swirling filigree and opposite facing heads at the top, stands on large turned and carved bun feet. 104 in. high x 31 in. wide x 17.5 in. deep
