R.J. Horner Mahogany Rattail 9 Tube Grandfather Clock. 12 in. silvered dial signed “Joseph Jennens, Skinner Street, Clerkenwell, London” with applied brass hour numbers, moon phase, sub seconds dial, sub dials for Chime-Silent & Westminster-Whittington, has fancy pierced hands, pierced gilt & engraved filigree center and corner spandrels. The brass weight driven movement has a Graham deadbeat escapement, retaining power, brass pulleys, 3 brass covered weights & pendulum bob with long steel stick; has 9 tubes striking Westminster and Whittington, also striking the hour. In a carved R.J. Horner mahogany case with enhanced original finish. The arched bonnet top has a large pierced carved winged maiden crest and figural winged griffin corbels on the corners; the body of the case has large figural rattail maidens with arms crossed at their breast and double spiral twisted sea-serpent tails, beveled glass on the oval front door. The base has a large carved inset front panel with swirling filigree, winged birds and center medallion with reclining putti in the center; stands on 4 large turned and carved bun feet. Seat-board rebuilt, missing upper bonnet glass in the door which is broken and missing a piece; the right side maiden is missing a board between her and the door, the moon phase dial has the paint removed, the silvered dials are worn and the hour strike hammer is repaired. 118 in. high x 31 in. wide x 18 in. deep
