Animated & Musical Figural Clock w/ Monkey. Unusual painted paper mache and carved wood case with a figure of a monkey seated under a tree, the figure wears French attire and is animated through a spring driven movement contained in the base, he rocks & swivels his head, moves his glass eyes as he plays a violin; flowers, leaves and a bird are in the treetop. To the left is the form of a boulder with contains a 3 in. porcelain dial with black Roman hour numerals, black hands and brass beaded bezel; typical round French brass spring driven movement signed “Japy Freres” has an half hour strike on a bell. Also contained in the base is a small cylinder music box which is wound by a string on the left side of the base, the automaton is operated through a separate movement in the base, is wound with a long crank on right side and has an on/off switch. Complete with the glass dome, in good operating condition. A very rare and unusual piece. 21 in. high x 18 in. wide x 8.5 in. deep.

A German made novelty clock with 1-day spring driven movement, as the clock ticks the monkey’s eyes move up and down as his mouth opens and closes. Measures 9.5 x 4.75 x 2.5 inches.

Condition

Very good original condition, the original paint and other elements throughout, original silvered dial with original black numerals. Only very minor bits of lost paint on the case. We cannot guarantee the running condition of timepieces post sale following movement and shipping.
