Etienne Maxant, Paris, a monumental quality cast bronze mantel clock of fanciful design, with swags and scrolls, the front section with stylized griffins. Gilt brass dial with individual cartouche numerals. The unique feature of this clock is the winding system employed by Maxant on virtually all of his clocks. He added arbors below the movement, well supported, such that the winding handles are invisible when the bezel is closed. You open the crystal and pull the winding handles outward until they engage and simply turn clockwise. Once finished, push the handle inward, and align it with the bezel and close the crystal. 8 day time and gong strike. Excellent quality.
