Quaker Time Regulator “Primitive Thermostat”. Cast iron back plate with filigree borders, has a long top section with mercurial thermometer, below is an iron drum containing the spring driven timepiece with alarm mechanism; 2 in. paper dial signed “Quaker Time Regulator, made by, Quaker Mfg. Co., Chicago, USA” has black hour numbers, spade hands and sub alarm indicator dial, in running condition. The unique mechanism in this piece is behind the timepiece where a rotating ratchet disc would connect from a chain to your coal burning furnace can be adjusted to regulate the “Draft” & “Check” dampers to control the fire at a higher and lower combustion rate making it warmer or colder in the room/home. The hinge on the door is cracked, in overall good condition and the timepiece is running. 9 in. high x 4 in. wide x 2.5 in. deep.
