Prentiss Improvement Clock Co. 60 Day Empire Model Calendar Wall Clock. 10 in. painted metal dial has black Roman hour numerals, blued spade hands have some surface rust, dial is signed “Henry S. Prentiss – Lessee – Prentiss Calendar & Time Co., New York”. 60 day, quality brass double spring driven time only movement has a solid brass front plate and pierced iron back plate and Graham deadbeat escapement, long drop pendulum has a wood stick and engraved brass covered bob; movement is numbered 812 over Pat. Dec. 10, 1889 over 1117. The center arbor of the movement has a “snail” gear connected to a rod which lowers to trigger the release lever on the top of the calendar mechanism, once a day the release lever is engaged which rotates the calendars “day” cylinder and the 31 date rotary “flick” card style mechanism with operates on a separate spring; the month and day barrels have a polygon form and retain their original paper labels, the date cards have replaced labels. In a beautiful oak case titled “Empire”, has a carved crest with raised paneled corner spandrels around the door bezel; the lower drop section has 3 inset reverse gold foil decorated glass apertures exposing the day, month and date labels of the calendar mechanism; the entire front of the case slides off for easy access to the interior of the clock. In original finish, running and in very good overall condition. Stamped on the front of the lower bracket on the case “Property of The Prentiss Calendar & Time Co. New York – 2280”. 37 in. high x 14 in. wide x 7 in. deep.
