DESCRIPTION: Yorktown (now York, York County Pennsylvania) 30 hour grandfather or tall case clock, circa 1785-1793. Walnut case with brass dial and applied pewter spandrels. The case with bracket feet and carved spurs supporting a rectangular base with applied molding. The waist with arch shaped top. The bonnet with tombstone side windows, carved columns, triple late Georgian urns and an unusual inverted shelf-shaped applied lozenge beneath the central plinth. The dial with the name Peter Schwartz and the location it was made Yorktown are engraved on pewter plaque. Schwartz is a clockmaker and silversmith working in York between 1772 and 1793. Examples of his work are in numerous museum collections Behind the dial is a 30 hour movement. MEASUREMENTS: 99" high x 18" wide at base x 10" deep at base. CONDITION: Running.
