French Bronze Chariot of Telem-achus Clock. Gilt bronze mantle clock also referred to as ÂChariot of Diomedes after a sketch by bronzier Jean-Andre Reiche (ref. French Bronze Clocks by E. Niehuser, pp. 68-69). Large chariot with armed soldier standing in the rear, young man with lion head front drawn by 2 horses rearing back; on a rectangular base with battle axe finials, wreath, armor and weapon mounts on the front. The 4 in. bronze dial resembles the spoked wheel of the chariot with pierced design exposing the skeletonized movement, has applied porcelain hour numerals and pierced hands; brass spring driven 8 day movement signed Japy Freres, half hour bell strike and is in good running condition. 17 in. high x 20 in. wide x 5 in. deep.
