Large Guilmet Mystery Clock, circa 1880
Black marble base with gilt bronze mounts, roman numeral dial, paw front feet, surmounted by a gold-tone patinaed metal classical female statue after Auguste Louis Mathurin Moreau (1834-1917) with upraised arm holding a gilt pendulum with a glass bob which swings without an visible means of impulse. Eight-day time and strike movement marked "Brevete GLT S.G.D.C.," strikes the hour and half hour on a bell.

Guilmet Figural Time & Strike 8 Day Mystery Clock. c.1880. Heavy black incised marble mantle case with brass handles on the sides and stands on brass feet. Has a marble dial with etched numerals and brass bezel, beveled door glass and gilt hands. Standing on top is a spelter figure of a woman holding a long pendulum with a beveled glass bob. The pendulum swings rotating the plate under the figure slightly and engages the escapement; the platform plate and figure are numbered 3779. The 15 day, half hour time and bell-strike movement bears the marks of Guilmet and is numbered 5707. The case and the movement are in very clean condition. 24.5 in. high

A 19th century French Mystery clock by Andre Romain Guilmet, Paris. 14-day spring driven time and strike movement with Black Slate dial and inlaid Roman numerals, cast Bronze bezel, adjustable Brass and Steel pendulum with Gilded Bronze mounts and Crystal bob, rear plate with "G L T" trademark, serial #208. Black Slate case surmounted by a Bronze Classical draped figure of a Greek Goddess which suspends the pendulum, with Gilded moldings, Lion's mask side handles and a shaped molded base supported by paw feet. Minor surface wear, a few tiny edge flakes to the slate, running when cataloged. 31" high. Standing on top is a gilt spelter figure holding a long pendulum with a beveled glass bob. Brass 8 day spring driven movement signed with ÂGLTÂ mark for Guilmet, has a half hour strike on a bell, crank & stirrup escapement which is exposed behind the dial. The case is in very good condition; movement is in working condition. 30 in. high x 14 in. wide x 8 in. deep. Weight: 40 lbs.
