Silvered chapter ring with applied brass Arabic hour numbers, sub seconds dial and moon phase dial, fancy engraved swirling leaf decoration in the center of the dial and spandrels, has fancy pierced black hour and minute hands, sub dials for Chime/Silent & Whittington/Westminster and signed ÂJoseph Jennens, Skinner Street, Clerkenwell, LondonÂ on the front. Quality 8 day marked ÂMade in EnglandÂ brass movement chimes on 8 silvered tubes and strikes the hour on a ninth, tubes are signed ÂJos. J, LondonÂ, has 3 quality brass weights and pulleys, brass pendulum bob with steel stick. Carved mahogany case Attr: R. J. Horner, has a serpentine form with broken arch crest, winged griffins and swirling leaves on the bonnet, carved lions heads on the corners of the body, with a figural putti on the base and claw feet. Quality brass weight driven 8 day movement with the trademark for Bawo and Dotter of New York City; has a recoil escapement, maintaining power, quality brass weights and pulleys. In a carved mahogany case with arched crest, filigree carved with 2 winged griffins, turned side columns and full standing figures of Chronos ÂFather TimeÂ; the body has large figural maidens busts on the corners with beveled glasses on the door and sides, the base has full standing winged griffins on the corners with filigree and a center carved medallion with a scene of a sailing ship, stands on scrolled feet. Large brass dial has a silvered 12 in. chapter ring with applied brass hour numbers, sub seconds dial, moon phase, sub dials for Chime/Silent & Westminster/Whittington, has fancy pierced blued hands, pierced gilt & engraved filigree center and corner spandrels, dial signed by the movement maker “Elliot, London” and retailed by Duryea & Potter, New York”. The brass weight driven movement has a Graham deadbeat escapement, retaining power, brass pulleys, brass covered weights & pendulum bob with long steel stick; movement signed “J.J. Elliot, London, 4585” and “H&H”, has 9 tubes striking Westminster and Whittington, also striking the hour, tubes are signed Harris & Harrington “436”. In an original finish carved R.J. Horner oak case with arched bonnet top having large turned finials, double columns on the sides and figural winged griffin corbels on the corners; the body of the case has large figural rattail maidens with arms crossed at their breast and double spiral twisted sea-serpent tails, beveled glass on the sides and oval front door. The base has a large carved inset front panel with swirling filigree, winged birds and center medallion with reclining putti in the center; inset side panels have swirling filigree and opposite facing heads at the top, stands on large turned and carved bun feet. 104 in. high x 31 in. wide x 17.5 in. deep
