James Hanna, Quebec City Tall Case Clock

Canadian. Circa 1815. Mahogany veneer with brass dial. James Hanna (1737-1807) and his son, James Godfrey Hanna (1788-1851) were watch and clockmakers in Quebec City in the 18th and 19th centuries. The tapered waist case, gothic panelled door, and quarter columns are characteristics common to a number of early tall case clocks originating from the province of Quebec in Canada. Dial signed, "James Hanna Quebecc" [sic]. Original finish. Scattered minor veneer losses, mainly around the feet. This clock was running at the time of cataloguing, but its service history is unknown. From the Jim Connell Collection. George 3rd bracket clock in a mahogany case by James Wild London (signed) with Roman and Arabic numbers. Bronze face with the date and strike silence selector, 8-day twin fusee movement striking every hour (single bell). Bronze movement, key available. In good working order, the wood case is in good condition but consistent with age. The clock measures 40cm tall handle is not included x 28.5 cm at the base.
