A mid 19th C. American painted and nacre inlay wood front rectangular shelf clock, 17 1/2″ X 12 1/2″, featuring an eight day spring driven clockworks, a dial in block script “J. C. Brown, Bristol, Ct, U.S.” but with a pasted interior label identifying the “Forrestville Clock Company” as the maker. The reverse painted portrait of J. C. Brown in the lower sectional, is a later replacement.
The paint surface id in very good state of preservation although the reverse painted tablet is a replacement. There is no guarantee of either the mechanical performance of clocks nor the completeness and originality of their parts and components.
