Herter Bros. & Tiffany & Co. Makers French Walnut Grandfather Clock. 12 in. bronze dial with applied bronze numbers, 2 in. sub seconds dial, fancy swirling brass hands, dial signed Tiffany & Co. Makers. Has a brass, weight driven movement signed Tiffany & Co. Makers 220, rack & snail strike mechanism on 5 coiled gongs, plays a progressive Westminster chime, has silent-strike lever inside the case, the quality movement has a deadbeat escapement and retaining power. 2 brass weights with quality brass pulleys, 2 jar cut glass mercury pendulum. The French walnut case has a scrolling broken arch crest with larger sphere and flame turned finial at the top of a reeded pilaster with hanging garland & drapery, 4 turned finials at the corners, shell carved spandrels with ribbons around the beveled dial glass and arched door in the body with beveled & leaded glass exposing the weights and pendulum, the base has a beveled panel door with figural dolphins at the corners and stands on bun feet; case is signed on the back – Herter Bros & numbered 1869. Original finish and in excellent condition, case made by Herter Bros. & movement by Tiffany & Co. Makers. Has a U-Shaped repair to the glass on one of the pendulum jars at the top edge, the jar does hold the mercury. 98 in. high x 24.5 in. wide x 12.5 in. deep.
