Herschedes Pattern 140 Mahogany 9 Tube Grandfather Clock. Has blued pierced hands, silvered chapter ring w/ applied brass Arabic numbers, sub seconds dial, and chime/silent & Westminster/Whittington sub dials, pierced swirling filigree in the center & spandrels with moon phase dial of a painted sea shore scene & sailing ship, signed with Herschedes Trade Mark; quality brass, weight driven movement, has Graham deadbeat escapement, 3 quality weights & pulleys, long brass pendulum with brass bob & steel stick, 9 tubes. In an elaborate carved mahogany case with swirling filigree & cornucopias of fruit with a center urn & flame finial on the crest, carved pilasters on the bonnet with beveled door glass; the body of the case has figural carved mountain men on the corners, holding a sash at their waste, over mythical faces, hanging fruits and inverted corbel supports below, the door and side glasses have filigree and medallion carved overlays with carved trim work. In good overall condition, case has minor wear to the crest, movement is in good running condition; 4 tubes have cracks at the ends. 106 in. high x 28 in. wide x 17 in. wide.
