Guilmet Figural Time And Strike 8 Day Mystery Clock. c.1880. Heavy black incised marble mantle case with gilt brass handles on the sides and stands on claw feet. Has a 4 in. marble dial with etched numerals and brass bezel, beveled door glass and gilt hands. Standing on top is a bronze figure holding a long pendulum with a beveled glass bob, figure is signed S. Marie (attr: Desire Pierre Louis Marie, 19th c, France). The pendulum swings rotating the plate under the figure slightly and engages the escapement; the platform plate and figure are numbered 001. The large round 8 day, half hour time and bell-strike movement bears the marks of Guilmet and is numbered 2061. The case and the movement are in very clean condition. 28.5 in. high
