Gilbert Maranville Octagon Drop Calendar Clock with 8 day time and strike, spring driven and a 12″ painted dial, Calendar is not perpetual. A photo of this movement may be seen in “Calendar Clocks by Tran Duy Ly” on page 81, photo # 168. Movement looks clean with newer screws holding it down and octagon head to case. The case has been Refinished with the original glass and original paint on lower door tablet and has a good label inside. Circa. 1860’s.

(There are a few nicks in the case, the painted tablet has some small touch ups and the dial has been repainted.

Gilbert Office Drop Calendar Clock. 12 in. Paper dial, comprised of 3 discs, the front disc contains the chapter ring with black Roman hour numerals and outer ring with 31 date calendar signed Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. Winsted, Ct. has cutouts for the second disc containing the sequential days of the week with Sunday highlighted in red and finally a cutout at the top exposing the months; the red date indicator moves automatically while the clock is running and the rear dials are manually adjusted at each months end, dials have some typical wear from age. Has a brass, 8 day, time only movement with recoil escapement, brass covered pendulum bob and wood stick. In a walnut case having a crest with fancy scroll carvings, leaf, rosette and cornucopia carving below, revere painted lower door glass and lower crest with sea shell carving. In original finish and good running condition. 33.5 in. high

Has a brass 8 day movement with recoil escapement, hour strike on a coiled gong, brass covered pendulum bob, paper label on the back of the case reads ÂManufactured for N.C. Hyde & Co. by Gilbert Manufacturing CompanyÂ. In a rosewood case with octagonal top, brass door bezel and chamfered drop section having leaf carved corbels and reverse painted door glass; enhanced original finish. 24.5 in. high x 17 in. wide x 4 in. deep.
