Animated Rocking Ship Dutch Hood Clock. Dial has a 10 in. silvered chapter ring with incised black Roman hour numerals & 5 minute numbers, pierced black hands, gilt filigree spandrels and signed Jan Hermelink, Amsterdam; dial has a painted harbor scenic arch at the top with rocking ship flying Dutch flags and mermaids on either side, ship and mermaids rock with the beat of the pendulum. Quality brass, weight driven movement has recoil escapement, drop hammer bell hour strike, long wood pendulum with brass bob and brass covered weight. In good running condition. In a walnut case with arched top bonnet, spun brass spherical finials and lower drop section with oval cutout with brass urn overlay exposing the pendulum bob. 51 in. high x 15 in. wide x 7.5 in. deep.

Dutch Hood Domestic Hanging Clock: With bell strike movement and alarm anchor escapement and a painted steel dial. In an oak or ash case with chain pull which sets the alarm. The small window has brass décor over it with an eagle on top along with owls, the sun and a flaming urn.

These clocks are sometimes referred to as Dutch Hoods. They were also made in surrounding countries and can date anywhere up to the 1870’s.

Dutch Hood Domestic Hanging Clock: With an anchor or recoil escapement movement and an alarm. Two hammers are used on the one bell for striking the time and the alarm. The pressed brass dial has a pomegranate in the lower corners. Above the dial is a scene with a windmill, buildings plus moon phase. In a rosewood and veneered case.
These clocks are sometimes referred to as Dutch Hoods. They were also made in surrounding countries and can date anywhere up to the 1870’s.

(The applied decoration over the lower window is missing. The dial has darkened.)
