A fine George III ebonised table clock of small proportions. John Johnson, Gray’s Inn Passage, London. Circa 1770, having a 5″ break-arched brass dial, the silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and Arabic minutes framing a matted centre with spade-form hour hand, all within cast rococo spandrels, the arch with silvered subsidiary Strike/Silent ring, the wire-driven twin-fusee movement now with anchor escapement (previously verge), the finely-engraved foliate backplate signed as above, the case having an ogee caddy top surmounted by a leaf-capped brass bale handle over flambeau cup-and-cover finials, the canted front with cast mounts, on a brass plinth and ogee bracket feet, (13.75″, (35cm) high excluding handle.

George III double fusee ebonised table clock, the back plate with fine foliate engraving and the movement with verge and crown wheel escapement, striking on a bell, the 6.75 arched brass dial signed Robert Ward, Abchurch Lane, London, with calendar aperture, the sides with pierced brass sound panels, surmounted by a caddy top and brass carrying handle, 47 cms high, Robert Ward was a clockmaker working in London between 1751 and 1775Provenance; by inheritance to the present vendor

Splat features stenciled fruit bowl. Claw feet, hand painted clock dial with Roman numerials, open diamond hands, reverse painted tablt, and beautiful label. Wooden works, weight driven clock with pendulumn. Measures approx. 29″ tall x 16″wide x 4″ deep.
