George Clarke Ebonized Chiming Bracket Clock, Leadenhall Street, London, 18th century, cast brass bail handle above the sarcophagus top, composite brass dial with matted center, silvered roman numeral chapter ring with quarter- and half-hour markings, and name boss with strike/silent in the arch, six pillar eight-day time and strike chain fusee six bell quarter-hour movement with pull repeat, fully engraved back plate engraved with maker's name, and verge escapement, ht. 20 1/2 with handle extended.

Grand Sonnerie Ebonized Bracket Clock. 6.5″ porcelain dial with black Roman hour numerals, pierced brass hands, open aperture with mirror rocking with the beat of the pendulum, 2 porcelain sub dials in the arch and center plaque with rabbit hunting scene; sub dial to the right is for silent strike, dial to the left appears to do nothing. Brass 8 day spring driven movement has a grand sonnerie quarter hour strike with repeater on 2 bells and a crown-wheel verge escapement. In an ebonized case with 6 turned finials at the top, glass panels on the front, rear door and on the sides, plastic panels with brass mullions highlight the corner spandrels and upper side sections. Enhanced oiriginal ebonized finish, replaced upper 2 finials, replaced feet, dials have chipping and touchup, hands repaired, bezel around dial is replaced; movement running and striking, reverse of dial-plate inscribed with “KL” initials (likely of a restorer). 18.5″ high x 11.25″ wide x 5.5″ deep. Weight: 10.5 lbs.

A late 18th century EBONIZED STRIKING TABLE CLOCK WITH PULL QUARTER REPEAT
Signed William Hughes, Holborn, London
The case surmounted by a caddy top with brass carrying handle flanked by bud finials, glazed side panels with gilt fillets, on a moulded base. The brass dial with gilt scroll spandrels, silvered strike/silent dial in the arch, silvered Roman chapter ring enclosing date, mock pendulum and silvered signature plaque in the matted centre, with scroll hands. The movement with rectangular plates, engraved with foliate scrolls enclosing signature cartouche, five knopped pillars, twin fusees with wire lines, verge escapement with knife edge suspended bob pendulum, striking the hour on a bell mounted above the case with pull quarter repeat on six bells.
Size: 17 ½ in (44cm) high including handle.

William Hughes worked at 119 High Holborn from 1755-1792. In 1763 he took Thomas Earnshaw as an apprentice, who eventually took over his premises when Hughes died.

Dobell, Hastings with painted filigree highlights and sub Âsilent/chime indicator above; has a quality brass 8 day spring driven 3 train movement with pin pallet escapement, quarter hour strike on a nest of 8 bells and strikes the hour on a cathedral gong, brass pendulum has matching numbers to the case Â1407Â. In an ebonized wood case with gilt brass mounts, finials feet, handles and pierced side panels. 27 in. high x 17 in. wide x 11 in. deep.
