The beautiful gilt bronze case depicts a seated man and woman facing each other in classic empire style chairs, they sit on either side of a table which is draped with a cloth wrapping around the clock, has a checkerboard with mirror at the back. The scene is very lively and very expressive, the male figure is reaching to make a move and his face holds a bold and confident expressing, the woman is realizing the move and bears a defensive expression. The rectangular stepped base of the case has beautiful filigree and dog mounts over a scene of a man and woman in a field, the man is teaching the woman to play his flute. 4.5 in. porcelain dial has black Roman hour numerals and fancy gilt pierced hands; typical round brass spring driven movement has an half hour count wheel strike mechanism with a steel bell. 18 in. high x 17 in. wide x 6 in. deep.
