A very fine French white marble and bronze dore clock of monumental size and exceptional quality. The substantial stone base is veneered in white marble and mounted with very finely cast bronze feet, rosettes, wreaths, garlands and two friezes both front and back. The clock movement, with 8.5 inch dial, is mounted in a large housing with gold dore finish and hand stippled highlights. Four large scrolls rise along side the movement case and are adorned with acanthus leaves, laurel berries and fruit garland swags. The arched top has an acanthus leaf border, a fully dimensional bow on both the front and back and the acanthus decorated top urn is laced with garlands of oak leaves and acorns. All of the decorative elements employed are doubled – meaning each is included on both the front and the back of the clock with many details to be found within the inner areas of the case structure. The perfect white enamel dial with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring is set with Louis XV style gilt brass or bronze hands that are cut, saw-pierced and engraved by hand. The eight day gilt brass movement, with barrels on the time and strike trains, strikes on the hour and half hour and is signed Charpentier Ft de Bronzes 359 Paris. Overall measurements are 28 x 22 x 9 inches overall. Good running condition. Running condition is not guaranteed once the clock is moved. Light soiling to the white marble in areas, very minor small chips and flakes to marble edges and corners, one center post is missing from a base rosette, the case top is very lightly sprung on one side.
