A rare George III oak cased dwarf longcase clock by John Braund of Hatherleigh having a 5″ (12.5cm) silvered circular Roman dial engraved ‘J BRAUND HATHERLEIGH’, the scaled movement having four knopped pillars, anchor escapement and four spoke wheelwork between canted plates, each 3″ wide x 3.75″ high (7.5 x 9.5cm), the case having a scroll pediment over columns, the caddy moulded break arched long door 4″ wide x 11.75″ long (10 x 29.5cm), over plain base and bracket feet, overall height just 40.25″ (102cm)
Condition
Dial – has been cleaned but exhibits tarnishing and pitting commensurate with age. Movement – excellent throughout, fully to scale and unalteredCase – has had three finials, now missing. Fine & Rare Ithaca #1 Regulator. Walnut case, original finish. Original paper over metal dials. 8 day time & strike, two weight, nickel plated movement with perpetual calendar and sweep second hand. Original nickel plated pendulum. Serial number 3993 written in pencil on the frame under the dial, as well as 11-’88. An outstanding example, the best one we’ve ever seeen. Ht. 6′ Dials 12″ dia..
