New England, 19th century, mahogany case with brass side scrolls, white enameled dial with Arabic numerals, with eglomis‚ throat panel painted with flowering urn, scrolls, and fruit basket and marked "Willard's Patent" within a scroll, square eglomis‚ painting of the maritime battle between the USS Constitution and the HMS Guerriere during the War of 1812, with weight, pendulum, and winder key, 40-1/2 x 10-1/4 x 3-1/2 in.

American “Patent Timepiece” Banjo Clock, Circa 1825, 7 1/2″ painted zinc dial refitted from old parts from another clock, 8-day, brass weight driven movement, early 19th century mahogany “patent timepiece” made by a Willard family contemporary, 1/2 round molding with glazed panels, even with its hurts it still is a beautiful & well made timepiece that compares favorably to Massachusetts’ South shore timepieces, as outlined in chapter ten of Paul Foley’s 2002 book “Willard’s Patent Time Pieces” (available at www.roxburyvillagepublishing.com), case with minor wear and loss on 2 corners, reverse painted tablets are Victorian replacements, movement complete and running. Height 33″.

S. Willard’s Patent Banjo Wall Clock. 7 in. painted metal dial with black Roman hour numerals, fancy blued pierced hands; typical brass 8 day time only weight driven banjo type movement, has a lead weight, brass pulley, steel pendulum rod with brass covered bob and brass lockdown hardware with T-bridge suspension. In a mahogany case with turned gilt acorn finial, brass door bezel with pierced brass side arms, marquetry inlaid borders in the throat and lower door; reverse painted & gold leaf original throat glass and lower tablet which reads “S. Willard’s Patent”. In good condition with an original finish, some minor inpainting in the tablet. 32.75 in. high.

E. Howard & Co. S. Willard Patent Banjo Clock: With a weight driven TO movement; a marked “Howard” dial; in a gilt and mahogany case with a gilt gesso eagle finial, the weight and pendulum. The lower door is marked “S. Willard’s Patent”.
