E. Howard No. 58 Wall Regulator. Original 8 in. painted metal dial signed “E. Howard & Co., Boston”, has black Roman hour numerals, original open moon hands, brass 8 day weight driven time only movement unsigned, has recoil escapement, maintaining power, brass pulley, wood pendulum stick and brass covered bob with lockdown hardware, wood weight baffle. In a walnut case with turned finials and teardrop finials, carved frieze and quarter fan corner spandrels around the dial. Dial has filled pinholes on either side of the signature suggesting a previous retailers tag, case has a dark red-brown overcoated finish, missing suspension spring on pendulum, missing weight and repainted original door glass; movement appears to be replaced having solid gears, unusual pendulum crutch, beat adjustment at the top and pierced designs manufactured into the front plate. 40 in. high x 12.5 in. wide x 5.5 in. deep. Weight: 21.5 lbs.

Description

No. 58 Regulator Wall Clock in glazed Mahogany case. Roman numeral radial dial with blued Brequet hour and minute indicator hands and engraved pendulum. Eight-day time only, case heavily carved with finials, carries original paper label and key. Complete in working condition. 40″H x 12.5″W x 4.75″D

Clock face has been signed in ink, “E. HOWARD & Co BOSTON” over original maker mark. Small hit to left side of case frame.

Howard & Co., Boston” with long silver painted wood pendulum stick, silvered damascened bob, lockdown hardware on the original wood weight baffle, brass pulley and original No. 5 iron weight. In a oak case with carved crest, turned finials, carved frieze and corner spandrels around the dial and turned teardrop finials at the base. Has an enhanced original finish and is in very good condition. 40 in. high x 12 in. wide x 6 in. deep.
