Rare Howard & Davis No. 4 Banjo Clock. Original 8 in. painted metal dial signed ÂHoward & Davis, Boston has black Roman hour numerals and blued open moon hands; brass weight driven 8 day time only movement signed ÂA. Howard, Boston and ÂD.P. Davis has a solid brass pulley, iron No. 4 weight, ebonized wood pendulum stick and brass covered bob. In a rosewood grain painted banjo style case with reverse gilt and black painted throat and tablet glasses. Nice overall condition, original finish, no inpainting to the glasses, weight baffle replaced, brass cover is loose from the bob. Albert Howard, a cousin of Edward Howard, went into partnership in Dec. 1858 as ÂE. Howard & CompanyÂ; in March of 1861 they formed a joint stock company called the ÂHoward Clock & Watch Company where Albert Howard was chosen as President and Edward as Superintendent & Treasurer. The factory was closed in May of 1863 and in October of the same year, Edward was able to reform the company with himself as President. 32 in. high x 13.5 in. wide x 4 in. deep. Weight: 17.25 lbs.

Howard & Co. Boston, has recoil escapement, No. 5 weight, ebony pendulum stick, brass bob and replaced weight baffles, brass lockdown hardware. Rosewood grain painted case has original French polished finish, original reverse painted throat and door glasses having some minor inpainting; bottom of the case has some minor restoration. 29 in. high.

In a rosewood grain painted banjo style case with red, black & gilt reverse painted throat and door glasses. Case has an overcoated finish, repairs to bottom board and joints, replaced hinged screws in the lower door, repaired pendulum stick, replaced dial and repainted glasses; the ratchet spring for the drive train is loose, not allowing the clock to hold power after winding. 29 in. high x 12 in. wide x 4 in. deep.
