This device captures the mind set towards and understanding of electricity in early the days of its commercial applications. Through a number of switching options on the base in front of the clock dial, one could ring a call bell, turn on a light over the clock dial or deliver an electric shock to themselves or a loved one for medical reasons. Each square tower on either end would house a dry cell battery. For the night light or call bell, the owner could press a button on the end of the wooden knob on the cloth wrapped cord you see in the pictures. With a simple change of the front switch, current could be channeled to the coil seen on the left side and through some no longer present connectors, a mild current could be administered to ailing body parts of the body for some health giving electrotherapy. The alarm clock was still spring driven. Manufactured by Darche Mfg circa 1910. Measures 8 x 12.5 x 5.5 inches.
