Black Forest Organ Clock

Made for the American market, ca. 1840. The painting on the clock's upper shield depicts the Swiss Legend of William Tell, and the front of the shield is a platform stage with six automated musicians hat move when the music plays. The lower shield contains a painting on zinc with an enamel dial featuring a portrait of George Washington and two red lions. Motifs that included George Washington were popular items in the American export market. The clock rests on a contemporary wall bracket constructed from Beautiful flam mahogany. A 19th century Black Forest wall clock. 8-day weight driven time and strike movement with a two part porcelain dial and Roman numerals with a molded brass bezel, serial #239. Walnut case with fully carved door featuring a Stag head crest, Oak leaves and various Hunting accoutrements. Older finish with some wear, running when cataloged. 49" high overall. ESTIMATE $600-800
