Bigelow Kennard & Co. Mahogany 9 Tube Grandfather Clock. 12″ silvered dial signed “Bigelow, Kennard & Co., Boston” with applied gilt brass hour numbers, sub seconds, pierced filigree hand, moon phase, pierced and engraved gilt brass filigree center and corner spandrels and has levers for “Silent-Strike” and “Strike on 4 gongs, strike on 8 gongs”. The brass 8 day weight driven movement is signed on the front plate “Bigelow Kennard & Co., Boston, USA” and on the rear plate “Made in England, 330” and “Patented March 6, 1902, No. 699303”; has a Graham deadbeat escapement, retaining power and 9 silvered tubes with progressive quarter hour strike on 8 and hour strike on 1, long steel pendulum stick with brass covered bob and solid brass pulleys. In a mahogany case with architectural top having applied filigree, large turned and fluted columns and block-form base with filigree borders around inset panels; has beveled glass sides and lower door, brass plaque on the reverse of the lower door is inscribed “presented to Walter S. Glidden, by his friends and associates in business on the 25th anniversary of his connection with the firm of N.E. Hollis & Company, 1881-1906”. Case is in original finish, has some dings and chipping and some loss to the applied filigree; missing weights, missing lever pin for the gong selector, movement is dirty and needs cleaning. 100.5″ high x 27.5″ wide x 22.5″ deep.
