Austrian Animated Grand Sonnerie Shelf Clock: The porcelain dial, with a 24 hour alarm dial in the center, has on each side a Roman Soldier with a hammer held high. On every quarter hour the hammer strikes “X” amount of times. Above the dial is a lion’s mask with snakes coming out of the mouth. The back plate of the movement is marked with a joined “HR” which is the only clue as to who made the clock. (Maybe Austrian??) The partly ebonized and painted wooden case has pressed brass figures of soldiers, wine and fruit servers, along with floral garlands, chickens, and strips of grape vines for added decoration. The white alabaster columns form an opening to the stage with mirrors on 3 sides and the pendulum in the form of a chariot with a female driver on clouds.
Everything appears to be original.
(The springs all wind properly.
The two gong strike is off at this time – it needs to be adjusted.)
25″ Tall x 14″ Wide x 6 1/2″ Deep; the Dial is 2 1/2″ Diameter.
Sells as is, where is.
