Second Quarter of 19th.c. Dial Signed “John C. Farr & Co. Philad” with the number “99” hand painted under the “Co.” and the “Philad”. Painted Dial with patch of paint loss on lower left of dial. Terrestrialhemispheres (faded) above dial. Dial with Hour, Calendar, and Moon Phases. Numerals on upper calendar ring are faded. Roman Numeral designating the hour with Arabic Numerals designating quarters. CornerMedallions on dial decorated with painted yellow and red flowers. Moon Phase dial decorated with a Sailing Ship at Sea, a Country Homestead, and 2 Moons-possibly repainted. Hood with Swan’s neck pedimentand central keystone over arched face (missing door) flanked by turned colonnettes. Case with central crotch mahogany pendulum door with brass escutcheon flanked by nicely turned columns over decorative crotchmahogany panel. Base with single bookmatched recessed panel on turned feet. Missing 3 finials. 8′ tall.

A fine Federal tall case clock, whose case, of dense and dark solid mahogany, is inlaid with shells, star, etc and line inlay, all standing on bracket feet The dial is believed to be from the shop of Nolan & Curtis, and there is an eight day bell strike movement. Probably New Jersey or New York, ca 1790-1810. 97″ in overall height without brass finial.
