19th Century French Portico Clock

A fine 19th century French gilt brass carriage clock with calendar in the manner of Abraham Louis Breguet
The Classically inspired case with folding bud handle and four bud finials on an engine turned ground over rosettes and reeded columns to a matching base on button feet, the white enamel dial with blue Roman numerals, minute track and blued steel trefoil hands over a subsidiary date dial within an engine turned mask, the movement with twin barrels driving a gilt platform with bimetallic balance to a lever escapement, the strike and repeat on a bell behind a shuttered rear panel. Together with an associated mid 19th century leather covered travel case and a double ended key. 16cms (6.25ins) high.

This carriage clock is closely modelled on the early travel clocks by the great Abraham Louis Breguet. 19th Century Sculptured Marble Portico Clock with time and strike movement. Raised on foliate and scroll feet, the base centered by a nautical shell flanked by horns of plenty, each side has a butterfly. The dial with Roman numerals and serpent hands enclosed by nautilus shell border, flanked by four twist turned columns with vine decoration and a Baccus pendulum. The top centered by a bust of Shakespeare. Condition: working. The back area housing the works has an old repair. Ht. 21 ¾” W. 12” D. 7”

19th century French Empire gilt bronze mounted and marquetry inlaid Portico Clock, the case and four columns with floral inlay around the gilt mounted brass face with Roman numerals and two wind holes, shell motif pendulum. [18 1/2" H x 9 1/2" W x 5 1/2" D]. Cracks to dial; stains; losses to veneer; scuffs; wear.
