A good mid 18th century ebonised bracket clock by Joshua Hewlett of Bristol. Having a 7″ break-arched dial, the silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and Arabic minutes framing a matted centre with calendar square, within rococo scroll spandrels, the arch with silvered boss engraved “Joshua Hewlett BRISTOL”, the five-pillar movement with verge escapement and gut-driven single fusee, the finely-engraved backplate with engraved repeat wheel, striking on two bells via three hammers, with original pendulum, the ogee caddy-top case with leaf-cast handle over break-arch moulding, the sides with arched quatrefoil-pierced fretwork, on block feet, 17.75″, (45cm) high excluding handle.

R. Bollard Japanned Fusee Bracket Clock, 18th C.: This is a London made double fusee clock in a Japanned case, circa the last half of the 18th century. The strike is on a large, steel cup bell. The metal dial is has applied floral and leaf designs around it. The old iron key with the clock winds the clock just fine and the clock is running at this time. The strike, when wound, goes until it is unwound.
(The case is dry and rough.)
The case is 21″ Long. The dial is 8″ Diameter.
